Welcome to: Southern Sounds Doula Service with Debbie Knispel, RN, BSN, Doula

With over 27 years of experience with empowering women to birth their babies, naturally, and because we find ourselves in a "maternal desert " with limited health care resources; A birthing doula is really needed to guide the parents and help navigate the most important journey of your life, birthing your newborn!! Let's Doula This!

"If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it."

Pediatrician, researcher and founder of DONA International Dr. John Kennell

Prenatal Visit

During our visit I can become familiar with your birth preferences and provide some childbirth education that will make labor easier. I will want to know your ways of coping with labor and introduce you to breathing exercises you can do at home. Make sure you are signed-up for Medicaid benefits!

Labor and Birth

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for a more calm birth

  • Help you stay more comfortable during labor

  • Encourage you and give you confidence

  • Facilitate communication with medical professionals and voice concerns or questions

  • Unlimited phone and text, from 38 weeks until the baby is born

Postparum Visit

I will be with you in postpartum to assure you and your birth partner are able to welcome your newborn in a calm, quiet manner and establish breastfeeding in the first "Golden Hour". I will also check in with you to make sure you and your newborn are adjusting well. This will be much more informal than your prenatal visit, and you can express what you want to talk about, and your needs. We will weigh the baby and make sure things are going well.

What is your philosophy?

I believe in empowering women to birth thier babies on their terms, with encuragement, reassurance, and natural pain management through the use of different tools, poisitions, and/or techniques I've learned over the years, like massage, counter pressure, and the use of a rebozo to name a few.

With over 27 years of experience, I have supported hundreds of women in their birth journeys. I will be there to support your needs and wants. In fact, the word doula translates to "a woman who serves."

I offer continuous support, education, and guidance throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Just knowing that someone is experienced and will be there with you through your entire journey and through the exciting and unknown moments is the best cmfort and re-assurance anyone could ask for. That is quite frankly what a doula is there for.

You can message me on messenger, reach me through my website's contact form or by phone. Preferred method is text or phone call, so I can give you individualized attention. I look forward to hearing from you so we can start a birth preferance plan!! The earlier the better:)
